During the first semester, Law Clinic students complete a short internship at a partner organization or selected law firms in the Bern area.

Here you will find an overview of the internships currently available.

  • Internship in the field of asylum law (legal advice for asylum seekers)
  • Responding to inquiries via Facebook/email, including research work or legal clarifications, preparing and accompanying a hearing at the SEM, assisting with the drafting of legal documents
  • Participation in internal training courses and external seminars in Germany and abroad possible
  • Internship in the field of criminal justice and enforcement of measures (counseling of incarcerated persons and their relatives)
  • Processing written inquiries, legal clarifications, and research work; developing options for action in individual cases; drafting written submissions (e.g., requests for access to files/appeals); where possible: prison visits/discussions with clients.
  • Internship in the field of asylum and immigration law (advising individuals without the right of residence in Switzerland)
  • Research work and legal clarifications, observing day-to-day consulting work, independently handling smaller consulting projects where possible, drafting written submissions/legal documents, developing options for action in individual cases
  • The aim of the short internship is to give the intern an insight into a specific area of the NKVF's work. The intern prepares the content and organization of a visit to a specialist area and also takes part in this visit.
  • Preparation of a commission visit to a French-speaking canton; participation in the commission visit as part of the delegation; follow-up work after the commission visit; updating of international standards on specific topics, if necessary
  • Internship in the field of criminal law and criminal procedure law (law firm)
  • In-depth research on a specific case, assistance in drafting legal documents, participation in meetings with the client concerned where possible, insight into the work of a lawyer.
  • Internship in the field of asylum law:
    • Bern Legal Advice Center for Asylum Seekers: Advice for asylum seekers in asylum proceedings under the old law and extended asylum proceedings
    • Federal Asylum Center Bern: free advice and legal representation for asylum seekers in the accelerated asylum procedure
  • Insight into the work of a consultant and legal representative for asylum seekers, drafting legal documents, participating in asylum interviews
  • Internship in the tracing service department (advising people who are searching for missing relatives abroad or in Switzerland)
  • Insight into the work of the tracing service, support with legal issues, research work and legal clarifications, support in developing legal foundations for the tracing service
  • Internship in the area of family reunification: Support in developing legal foundations for the specialist unit; support in specific case work
  • Insight into the work of the advisory service, support with legal issues, research work and legal clarifications, support in developing legal foundations for the advisory service
  • Internship in the field of asylum and immigration law (supporting the legal department with a legal task depending on current events)
  • Clarification of legal issues within the framework of legal consultation hours and the fundamental work of the legal department, preparation of relevant case law for legal protection actors in the field of asylum
  • Possible topics (depending on current events and knowledge) include: asylum law issues, procedural issues, legal status of persons seeking asylum depending on their status, coercive measures, hardship cases, emergency assistance, data protection.
  • On-site counseling at the Untermatt meeting place, Bern Bethlehem
  • Independent in-depth study of a legal issue relevant to consulting work and creation of a product for use by consultants or those seeking advice
